TOOL Members Share An Update On New Music.

Tool has often assured fans that, unlike 2019’s “Fear Inoculum,” it won’t take another 13 years for a new album to be released. And if we can take bassist Justin Chancellor and drummer Danny Carey at their word, it might be more like… five years.

The duo recently confirmed in an interview that they hope to start recording as soon as they finish their tour this year. The rockers say the band has already begun the process of “jamming and gathering ideas.” But… don’t expect a new album to look like their last stuff.

“It’ll be different this time,” admitted the bassist. “Everyone’s life is different, and everyone’s expectations are different.” Carey called their album-making a “painstaking process” since all four bandmates have to agree on each song. Also, a new offering might be an EP (like 1992’s “Opiate”) as opposed to a full album. Stay tuned, Tool fans.

Mike Portnoy Admits He Almost Rocked Out With Nickelback:

Mike Portnoy, who recently returned to Dream Theater, has long been one of rock’s busiest drummers. But fans may not know that the iconic rocker once almost jammed with one of rock’s most divisive bands. “I got a call from Nickelback in the spring of ’22,” Portnoy admitted. “Their drummer (Daniel Adair) was, I guess, having surgery, and they asked me to play a show with them.” He admitted it would have been “a fun gig,” but the festival they were meant to play was eventually canceled. He also confessed he wasn’t familiar with the Canadian band, saying, “I don’t listen to the radio, so I don’t know any Nickelback songs.”
